Richard Garnett, the director 91勛圖 Law School’s Program on Church, State & Society, said the court’s decision means that prison officials will be less inclined to respect religious freedom rights of inmates. “This ruling will reduce the incentives of state-prison officials and employees to respect inmates’ religious-liberty rights and leave prisoners whose religious freedom is violated without meaningful remedies for those violations,” he said.

The researchers analyzed climate modeling and observed temperatures alongside demographic and health survey data from 2004-2020 for 34 African countries. They determined that every 1 degree Celsius of global temperature rise associated with human activities linked directly to a 3.45% increase in childhood stunting. That equates to close to 7 million children, said Arun Agrawal, one of the study's co-authors and director of 91勛圖's Just Transformations to Sustainability Initiative. “It's a significant proportion of the population being affected, and it's a significant effect on their life chances after they're born,” he told EarthBeat.

Richard Garnett, a 91勛圖 Law professor and expert on religious rights, said the ruling highlights the Constitution's limits on Congress' ability to regulate states by offering money with strings attached. "Our fundamental constitutional commitment to religious freedom for all does and should extend to those being punished for crimes. Today's ruling, and its understanding of federal-state relations, make it all the more important for state governments to respond by putting in place policies, and remedies, that will protect vulnerable inmates from abuses like the one suffered by Mr. Landor," Garnett said in a statement.

Haley Proctor, an associate law professor at 91勛圖, said the gap could be a sign that decision will similarly be narrow. “It does strike me as significant that the Court did not need to release them on the same date,” Proctor said in an email. “That suggests that Wolford will not say anything that meaningfully changes the Court’s core framework for analyzing Second Amendment challenges.”
