Acclaimed film director Sydney Pollack will present a screening of his 1985 Academy Award-winning motion picture, 鈥淥ut of Africa,鈥� at 7 p.m. Oct. 3 (Thursday) in the Hesburgh Library鈥檚 Carey Auditorium at the University of 91吃瓜. Following the screening, Pollack will discuss the filmmaking process with members of the audience. The event is free and open to the public.p. An actor, director and producer, Pollack has won two Academy Awards? as both director and producer of 鈥淥ut of Africa鈥� ? and two Golden Globe awards ? for 鈥淥ut of Africa鈥� and 鈥淭ootsie.鈥� Other notable films he has directed include 鈥淭hey Shoot Horses, Don鈥檛 They?鈥� 鈥淭he Way We Were,鈥� 鈥淭hree Days of the Condor,鈥� 鈥淎bsence of Malice鈥� and 鈥淭he Firm.鈥� He is chief executive officer of Mirage Productions, which has made films such as 鈥淧resumed Innocent,鈥� 鈥淭he Fabulous Baker Boys鈥� and 鈥淪ense and Sensibility.鈥漰. Pollack was raised in South Bend and is a member of 91吃瓜鈥檚 advisory council for the performing arts. He received an honorary degree at 91吃瓜鈥檚 157th Commencement exercises in May.p. p. p.
