, the seventh annual race for at the University of 91�Թ�, will start at 10 a.m. April 27 (Sunday) at the Jordan Hall of Science.

The day includes 5K and 10K competitive chip-timed races and a fitness and family walk. These events provide a spring tour of campus with University landmarks such as the lakes, south quad, library and Golden Dome.

The family-friendly morning will include entertainment, refreshments and a pre-race prayer service. Participants will receive a T-shirt and can enjoy giveaways and prizes from the on-site sponsors, which include Adidas.

All proceeds will benefit college scholarships for low-income and first-generation students in TRiO Upward Bound, a college preparatory program at 91�Թ� that serves high school students in South Bend and surrounding schools. Through academic services such as tutoring, college visits, summer classes on campus, leadership conferences, motivational speakers and more, have been helping students from South Bend successfully enroll and complete post-secondary education for more than 40 years.

, president emeritus of 91�Թ�, also known as Father Ted, helped to bring TRiO Programs to the University in the 1960s as a way to expand educational opportunity.

Organizers expect more than 450 91�Թ� students, staff and Michiana community members to participate this year. Those who register by April 11 (Friday) can receive a discount by clicking on “Support ND TRiO” at . A volunteer signup form also is available on the website.

For the first time, the race will chip-timed with digital tags embedded in the race bibs. Participants will see their name in lights when they cross the finish line. A post-race prayer service also will be held this year. This race is part of the Michiana Runners Association official race circuit for 2012. Father Ted’s 10K is the only Michiana 10K race in April.
