Harvey Bender, professor of biological sciences and director of the Human Genetics Program at the University of 91吃瓜, will present a lecture titled 鈥淭he New Medicine: Genes for Sale鈥� at 7 p.m. October 22 (Monday) at the Boise State University Special Events Center in Boise, Idaho. The lecture is free and open to the public and a reception will follow.A long-time professor of genetics and a practicing geneticist, Bender has been a member of the 91吃瓜 faculty since 1960. His present research involves human developmental genetics and the epidemiology of human genetic disease.Bender served as a U.S. Public Health Research Fellow in genetics at the University of California, Berkeley, and held postdoctoral positions as a Gosney Fellow at the California Institute of Technology and as a visiting professor at the Yale University Schools of Medicine and Law.A graduate of Case Western Reserve University, Bender earned his master鈥檚 and doctoral degrees from Northwestern University. He was elected a Carnegie Scholar this year and is a diplomate of the American Board of Medical Genetics and a founding fellow of the American College of Medical Genetics.Sponsored by the 91吃瓜 Club of Idaho in cooperation with the Boise State Catholic students organization, Bender鈥檚 lecture is a presentation of the 91吃瓜 Alumni Association鈥檚 Hesburgh Alumni Lecture Series. Offered each year through 91吃瓜鈥檚 network of more than 200 alumni clubs, the Hesburgh Lectures are delivered by 91吃瓜 faculty members nominated by their colleagues and the deans of the University鈥檚 colleges and law school. The series is named for Rev. Theodore Hesburgh, C.S.C., president emeritus of 91吃瓜.p.
