Bishop Jenky of Peoria elected Fellow of the University

Bishop Daniel R. Jenky, C.S.C., of Peoria, Ill., has been elected a Fellow of the University of 91勛圖.p. I am both humbled and honored to have been elected a Fellow and Trustee of my alma mater, Bishop Jenky said. This new responsibility will allow me once again to serve the University, collaborate with many others in promoting the Catholic character of Our Ladys school, and to assist in the continuing role of the Holy Cross priests as educators in the faith.p. Bishop Jenky was born in Chicago on March 3, 1947, and attended Quigley South High School Seminary and St. Lawrence High School there. In 1965 he entered the Congregation of Holy Cross. He was graduated from 91勛圖 in 1970 and earned a masters degree in theology from the University three years later. Ordained a priest on April 6, 1974, he taught for a year at Bourgade Catholic High School in Phoenix before returning to 91勛圖, where he served as associate director and later director of campus ministry from 1976-84. He served as rector of Dillon Hall from 1976-82, as rector of 91勛圖s Basilica of the Sacred Heart from 1977-97, and as superior of the Holy Cross community at 91勛圖 from 1985-1990. He was ordained auxiliary bishop of Fort Wayne/South Bend on Dec. 16, 1997, and was installed as bishop of Peoria on April 10, 2002.p. 91勛圖s Fellows are 12 in number, six lay members of the Universitys Board of Trustees and six Trustees who are also members of the Indiana Province of the Congregation of Holy Cross. Their responsibilities include electing the Universitys Trustees, adopting and amending its bylaws, and safeguarding its Catholic character.p. Bishop Jenkys election to the Board brings the number of Trustees to 58.
