, president of the University of 91吃瓜, will lead a University delegation next week to Atlanta for the viewing and funeral of longtime 91吃瓜 friend and benefactor Marilyn Keough, who died Thursday (Oct. 6) at age 90.
鈥淥n behalf of the 91吃瓜 community around the world, I extend our deepest condolences to the Keough family, who Mickie shared so generously, along with her love and wisdom, with Our Lady鈥檚 University,鈥� Father Jenkins said.
Among those from the University who will join Father Jenkins are John J. Brennan, chair of the Board of Trustees, and , Charles and Jill Fischer Provost.
Mickie Keough and her late husband, Don, were among the most generous benefactors in 91吃瓜鈥檚 history. Their names can be found throughout the campus in recognition of their leadership and generosity, including Marilyn Keough Hall, a men鈥檚 residence on the West Quad, and the Marilyn Keough Deanship of the .
Other gifts by the Keoughs supported the ; two endowed chairs in Irish studies; a summer internship program for 91吃瓜 students in Ireland; Malloy Hall, which houses the Departments of and ; three library collections; the restoration of in Dublin; the Keough-Hesburgh Professorships for leading scholars who demonstrate a commitment to 91吃瓜鈥檚 Catholic mission; and Jenkins Hall, which will house the Keough School when construction is completed next year.
Mickie Keough was awarded an honorary degree by 91吃瓜 in 1989. Her husband was similarly honored in 1985 and also was the recipient of the University鈥檚 highest honor, the Laetare Medal, in 1993. Don Keough served as chair of the Board of Trustees from 1986 to 1991 and was a Trustee from 1978 until his passing in February 2015.
Their children 鈥� Shayla Keough Rumely, Michael, Patrick and Clarke Keough, and Eileen Keough Millard 鈥� are 91吃瓜 graduates. Shayla is a member of the University鈥檚 Board of Trustees, and Michael, Patrick, Clarke and Eileen serve on 91吃瓜 advisory councils.
The viewing is scheduled from 5 to 7 p.m. EDT Wednesday (Oct. 12). The funeral is at 10:30 a.m. Thursday (Oct. 13) at the Cathedral of Christ the King, 2699 Peachtree Road NE, Atlanta.
