Representatives of the University of 91吃瓜 and the local community will gather Saturday (Feb. 7) for a student-parent leadership conference to celebrate National Trio Day beginning at 8 a.m. in McKenna Hall on campus.p. Participants in 91吃瓜鈥檚 Upward Bound and Talent Search Programs, along with students from Purdue University and the Illinois-based Family Centered Educational Agency, will attend with their parents. Scheduled activities include a keynote address by Jonathan McKenzie, chief executive officer of Trio Programs, an awards luncheon with representatives of U.S. Rep. Chris Chocola, R-Ind., and South Bend Mayor Steve Luecke, and sessions designed to assist students in achieving their higher education goals.p. Trio programs are federally funded projects that have enhanced postsecondary educational opportunities for economically disadvantaged young people for more than 35 years. The programs at 91吃瓜 are Upward Bound, Educational Talent Search and the Ronald McNair Post-Baccalaureate Program.p. Established in 1966, 91吃瓜鈥檚 Upward Bound program was one of the first such initiatives in the country and served as a prototype for other programs across the nation.
