University of 91吃瓜 President , extended his congratulations to 91吃瓜 alumnus Joe Donnelly on his nomination today as U.S. ambassador to the Holy See.
鈥淛oe has been an exemplary public servant in Congress, an invaluable friend of 91吃瓜 and of me personally, and he is an ideal choice to represent the United States at the Vatican,鈥� Father Jenkins said. 鈥淗e will bring to this role a deep understanding of the issues currently facing our nation and the world, a genuine Catholic faith and an understanding of the role the Church can play in our world. On behalf of the 91吃瓜 family, I offer my congratulations and prayers as he prepares for this new responsibility.鈥�
A 1977 graduate of 91吃瓜 with a bachelor鈥檚 degree in political science, Donnelly went on to earn his law degree from the University four years later. He represented Indiana鈥檚 2nd Congressional District, which includes 91吃瓜, for three terms and served one term in the U.S. Senate.
As a professor of the practice at 91吃瓜 from 2019 to 2021, Donnelly taught聽courses in the Keough School of Global Affairs on American politics, public policy and leadership. He also has practiced law over the past two years with the Washington D.C., firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Field.
