Twenty faculty members from five of the University of 91吃瓜's听听have been awarded grants through the听听听(IGP). Recipients who applied were awarded Faculty Research Support Regular Grants, Faculty Research Support Initiation Grants, Rapid Response Grants听and other internal funding.听

In discussing the awards,听, associate vice president for research and professor of听, said, 鈥淭he Internal Grant Program allows 91吃瓜 Research to grant funding to projects that are distinctly 91吃瓜 and support projects that span across the colleges and schools. This year鈥檚 recipients showcase the vast contributions our faculty and researchers have to offer the University, the city of South Bend听and the greater research community.鈥�

The 2018听听recipients are:听

• , associate dean for research, scholarship听and creative work;听academic director of the Rome studies program;听and director of the Digital Historic Architectural Research and Material Analysis Lab, for her research called, 鈥�3D digital visualization center.鈥�

• , assistant professor of music theory and composition, for his project titled, 鈥淭he Zohn Collective at 91吃瓜.鈥�


• , assistant professor of film, television听and theater, for his research on听鈥溾�楨ver, that鈥檚 her name: H茅l猫ne Cixous.鈥� A feature-length creative documentary film.鈥�


• , associate professor of American Studies, for his project on听鈥淟atino murals of Pilsen: A digital toolkit for scholarship, teaching, and discovery.鈥�


• , professor of anthropology, for his research titled, 鈥淢idewin historical ecology project.鈥�

The 2018听听recipients are:

• , research assistant professor of the W.M. Keck Center for Transgene Research, for her study titled, 鈥淭oward discovery of early diagnostic biomarkers for skin and nasal diseases caused by the flesh-eating bacterium听Streptococcus pyogenes.鈥�

• , associate professor of history and Heiden College Chair, for his project on听鈥淢edieval Smyrna/Izmir: The transformations of a city and its hinterland from Byzantine to Ottoman times (twelfth-fifteenth centuries).鈥�


• , research assistant professor of biological sciences, for his research called, 鈥淒efining the mechanism of nontuberculous Mycobacteria-host interaction in cystic fibrosis.鈥澨�


• , associate director of the Institute for Scholarship in the Liberal Arts, for his proposed book, 鈥淢ining the Invisible.鈥�


• , associate professor of classics, for his project called, 鈥淐ataloguing the Medieval Latin manuscripts of Poland.鈥�


• , assistant professional specialist and fellow of the Institute for Educational Initiatives and Alliance for Catholic Education Teaching Fellow, for his study titled, 鈥淪tudying the practices and effects of secondary English teachers.鈥�


• , professor of English, for his research called, 鈥淔rom Vinland to the Americas.鈥�


• , associate professor of English, director of graduate studies in the department of English, and fellow of the Keough-Naughton Institute for Irish Studies, for her project on听鈥淧rinted communities: Religious tracts and readerly connection in the age mass literacy, 1785 鈥� 1875.鈥�


• , research assistant professor of aerospace and mechanical engineering and staff member of NDnano, for his study called, 鈥淚nducing tumor self-destruction using targeted nanoparticles as an on-off switch.鈥�


• , research associate professor of electrical engineering and member of the 91吃瓜 Integrated Imaging Facility, for his research titled, 鈥淚n situ TEM of phase transformation in nanostructured materials.鈥�


• , assistant research professor of chemical and biomolecular engineering, for his project on听鈥淎 validation study with CNT based platform for selective and sensitive detection of protein biomarkers.鈥�


• , assistant teaching professor of civil and environmental engineering and earth sciences (CEEES), and Elizabeth Kerr, assistant teaching professor of CEEES and director of undergraduate studies, for their study called, 鈥淧arameterizing major discernment for first- and second-year engineering students.鈥�

Additionally, 91吃瓜 Research has also awarded three other grants, including Rapid Response awards, through the IGP. The recipients include:

• , professor of physics, for his study called, 鈥淎 new paradigm to reduce lead poisoning in South Bend children.鈥�

• , associate professor of computer science and engineering, for his research on听鈥淯ndergraduate research experiences in wildlife conservation engineering.鈥�


• , associate professor of law, for her project titled, 鈥淩eclaiming the dignity of work through varied methods of assessment.鈥�
