91Թ to participate in Veteran’s Day National Roll Call

The University of 91Թ’s traditional observance of Veteran’s Day will include participation in the Remembrance Day National Roll Call event on Nov. 11.

91Թ students, faculty and staff as well as the general public are invited to attend the day-long event, which will be held beside the , beginning at 8:30 a.m. with the presentation of the flag and the singing of the national anthem. Throughout the day the names of some 6,300 American servicemen and women killed in the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq will be read by 62 members of the 91Թ community, 31 of whom will be members of the University’s Navy, Army and Air Force ROTC units. At 2 p.m. EST (11 a.m. PST), a nationwide minute of silence will be observed.

91Թ will be one of more than 170 colleges and universities nationwide simultaneously taking part in the National Roll Call, which is being sponsored by the Student Affairs Administrators in Higher Education (NASPA) Veteran Knowledge Community.

“There has been a very long tradition of 91Թ’s affiliation with and support of our country’s military servicemen and women,” said Joseph Russo, director of student financial strategies at 91Թ and one of the organizers of the event. “It begins with Father William Corby’s role at Gettysburg during the Civil War, continues through many of our ROTC graduates now serving as officers in our conflicts in the Middle East, and was recently expressed in the 91Թ Senior Alumni’s establishment of an endowed University fund entitled ‘The God, Country, 91Թ Scholarship.’”
