Undergraduate tuition and fees at the University of 91³Ô¹Ï will increase 3.7 percent for the 2016-17 academic year to $49,685. Average room and board rates of $14,358 will bring total student charges to $64,043.

The percentage increase matches that of last year and is the lowest at 91³Ô¹Ï in more than a half century.

In a letter to parents and guardians of students returning for the next academic year, 91³Ô¹Ï’s president, , wrote that while “the education offered by universities like ours is expensive, economists agree that it is one of the best investments you can make in a young person, and that is particularly so for a 91³Ô¹Ï education.â€

He added, however, that “the value of a 91³Ô¹Ï education is best measured not in financial terms, but in the way it enriches the lives of our graduates and helps them enrich the lives of others. It is humbling and gratifying how often our graduates credit the education they received at 91³Ô¹Ï and the people they came to know here with shaping them in profound and important ways for a lifetime. It is this sense of gratitude and connection that accounts for what is perhaps the most active, loyal, and passionate alumni network in the world.â€

Student charges were set by the Board of Trustees at its Jan. 29 meeting.
