Registration is now open for the , a 300-mile pilgrimage on foot from Vincennes, Indiana, to South Bend that recreates the November 1842 journey of University of 91³Ô¹Ï founder Rev. Edward F. Sorin, C.S.C., and seven brothers.
The Congregation of Holy Cross had received a gift of land in Indiana for the purpose of founding a school near the banks of the St. Joseph River. Father Sorin and his companions set out on their journey, determined to establish a school dedicated to Mary, the mother of Jesus, which would, in Father Sorin’s prophetic words, “become a powerful means for good.â€
From Aug. 13 to Aug. 26, 2017, as part of the University’s 175th anniversary celebration, the 91³Ô¹Ï Trail will commemorate Father Sorin’s journey. Three package options allow participants to select a distance that meets their physical abilities. Packages include a five-day (Aug. 22-26), 70-mile option; a three-day (Aug. 24-26), 40-mile choice; and a one-day (Aug. 26), eight-mile route. For those who are not able to make the journey in person, there will be a number of ways to participate virtually.
The 91³Ô¹Ï Trail will conclude on Aug. 26 (Saturday) with a celebratory Mass on South Quad.
