Summer Shakespeare at the University of 91吃瓜 will present William Shakespeare鈥檚 鈥淎 Midsummer Night鈥檚 Dream鈥� from July 23-Aug. 2 in Washington Hall on campus. Jessica Thebus, associate artist with Chicago鈥檚 Steppenwolf Theatre Company, directs the production, which features some of the nation鈥檚 finest Shakespearean actors. Susan Hart and Martin Yurek, both from The Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, play Titania and Oberon, respectively, and 25-year professional theater veteran Bradley Mott portrays Bottom.p. 鈥淎 Midsummer Night鈥檚 Dream,鈥� which has been enchanting audiences for four centuries, is a story about a magical world of dreamy lovers and mischievous fairies. Performances of 鈥淎 Midsummer Night鈥檚 Dream鈥� culminate a summer collegiate theater and production experience that provides students with intensive professional training in Shakespearean theater. Through an innovative 91吃瓜 course titled 鈥淪hakespeare-in-Performance,鈥� students learn from a teaching team composed of Shakespeare scholars and theater professionals to examine literary and theatrical perspectives on each play being produced. Students work on the production alongside theater professionals as assistants to directors, designers and technicians, and on stage in supporting roles.p. 鈥淪hakeScenes鈥� participants will employ the techniques of a Shakespearean 鈥淕reen Show鈥� to perform scenes from 鈥淢acbeth,鈥� 鈥淭welfth Night,鈥� 鈥淎s You Like It,鈥� 鈥淩omeo and Juliet,鈥� 鈥淜ing Henry V,鈥� 鈥淎 Midsummer Night鈥檚 Dream,鈥� 鈥淢uch Ado About Nothing,鈥� 鈥淐oriolanus,鈥� 鈥淜ing Lear鈥� and 鈥淭he Comedy of Errors鈥� beginning at 1 p.m. July 19-20 (Saturday-Sunday). The performances, which are free and open to the public, will be held on the Fieldhouse Mall, located between the LaFortune Student Center and the Clarke Memorial Fountain on campus.
