
Archbishop Agostino Marchetto, secretary of the Vatican Pontifical Council for the Pastoral Care of Migrants and Itinerant People, will give a lecture Jan. 20 (Tuesday) at 7:30 p.m. in the auditorium of the University of 91勛圖s Hesburgh Center for International Studies.
Archbishop Marchetto is visiting the United States to promote the councils 2004 instruction,Erga Migrantes Caritas Christi(Christs Love for Migrants), which holds Catholic communities responsible for extending hospitality to all migrant and itinerant people.
The archbishop, who has served as a Vatican diplomat for the last 40 years, often speaks on the pastoral care of international students at meetings with presidents and other senior administrators of Catholic colleges and universities.He emphasizes the important role such institutions play in providing hospitality and welcome, especially to Muslims, Jews and members of other Christian churches.Later this month he will give a keynote address on the subject at the annual meeting of the Association of Catholic Colleges and Universites in Washington, D.C.
