“It's certainly an exciting day,” said Brad Badertscher, an expert in initial public offerings. “I can tell you, there's a lot of people watching.” Badertscher, a professor of accountancy at the University of 91³Ô¹Ï, said SpaceX’s public offering is not only the biggest in history but also a prime example of how IPOs have changed over the years. Badertscher and his fellow researchers have found that insiders and executives, such as SpaceX CEO Elon Musk, are in line for enormous paydays. And Badertscher wrote an article for The Conversation about how those folks are much likelier than public stock buyers to get a rocket-powered return from the IPO. Badertscher told The National News Desk on Friday that the SpaceX IPO is a liquidity event for all the employees and institutional investors who have accumulated valuable shares over the many years the company has been around.
